The Palace of the Counts of Penafiel, or the Correio-Mor Palace, (Portuguese: Palácio dos Condes de Penafiel; Palácio do Correio-Mor) is a Portuguese palace located in Lisbon, Portugal. == History == The palace today dates back to the 1755 Lisbon earthquake, when the current palace was built on the location of the totally destroyed palace of the Correio-Mor's (Portuguese: Palace of the High Courier), hence its other name. When the office of High Courier was terminated in 1797, the owner of the palace was made the Count of Penafiel as compensation, hence the current name of the palace. In 1919 the palace was acquired by the Portuguese government and made the seat of the Portuguese Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Communications. In 2011 the palace was offered to the Community of Portuguese Language Countries and made its new global headquarters.
